I’ve just started reading The War Within: Diaries From The Siege Of Leningrad by Alexis Peri and I’m constantly struck by how what we’re going though now with COVID19 is a siege and how the thinking and internal struggles of Leningrad’ers, and others who have been though sieges, mirrors our current experience.
“Rocco Coronato has likened a siege to a “hermeneutic interlude”, a freezing pause wherein the besieger and the besieged are made to reflect upon themselves. During this prolonged encounter, questions about identity, society, politics, and morality inevitably come to the fore.”
