I Absolutely love hazelnuts and have wanted to try baking with hazelnut flour for about forever, but I’ve always held off on it as the stuff is OMFG expensive. Anyway, I took the plunge and bought a couple pounds of the stuff last week and used it for the first time today mixed 50/50 withContinue reading “Hazelnut Flour”

That Doesn’t Happen Very Often
I was out running errands on my bike today and ended up walking the bike up a steep hill. That doesn’t happen very often and, at least in this case, it wasn’t a fitness thing. It was a I’m building up heat and can’t get rid of it thing. A “real feel” temperature of 97Continue reading “That Doesn’t Happen Very Often”
The Light Stick Over The Door Trick
Since we’re all following the mess in Texas, people are looking into preparedness stuff, and it looks like I haven’t shared this yet, I present to you: The Light Stick Over The Door Trick. Batteries and flashlights tend not to do so well in the humidity an changing temperatures of a bathroom and my bathroomContinue reading “The Light Stick Over The Door Trick”
Maximum Sunshine
I’m originally from the Seattle area, AKA the darkest place in the lower 48. Which isn’t so great when you have a fairly whopping dose of Seasonal Effective Disorder. When I decided to move out of the Pacific Northwest moving to a place with more light in the wintertime was one of my top criteria.Continue reading “Maximum Sunshine”
One Day At A Time
The sky’s dark and overcast. The weather’s cold. There’s a pandemic on. Got a friend on chemo. I don’t even want to know what our elected and economic “leaders” are up too… But, we’ll get though this thing. I’ve got chicken and rice soup on the stove, oatmeal cookies in the oven, and Charles MingusContinue reading “One Day At A Time”
‘Bout That Time Of the Year
Normally, I like my chocolate dark and bitter (like my soul!). But, there’s something about Christmas time that changes that. Come Christmas time and the special displays in the stores I can’t seem to walk by without grabbing a bar or two of the Cadbury fruit and nut variety. They don’t last very long onceContinue reading “‘Bout That Time Of the Year”
This Just Isn’t Normal
In a normal year snow would have ended my days of bombing dirt roads on a road bike by now. But, it seems even the weather can’t be normal in 2020. The current forecast has a couple of 40 degree days in mid December in it. This is just strange.
Brown Season Continues…
Brown Season can turn into Snow Season any time now. I was going to go on a bike ride today, but it turned out to be one of those damp days in the 30’s where no matter what you do you can’t stay warm and then suddenly you’re over heated, so today’s ride turned intoContinue reading “Brown Season Continues…”
Worst Weather Ever
33 degrees, rain, and wind. Plus, we still have snow from a few days back hanging around in the form of several inches of half melted slush. Today will be a stay inside and read a book day. I’m looking forward to winter showing up for real and our whisky-bright 10 degree mornings.
Pro Tip
Never store a half pound of cayenne pepper, in a glass jar, on a high shelf, in your kitchen. Had to open a few windows this morning…
