That’s Schofield Hall on the University Of Wisconsin at Eau Claire campus hiding in the trees. It’s named for the first President of the University, Harvey Schofield. The building was designed by the architects Van Ryn & Degelleke. Built in 1914 it was the first building on the campus. Today Schofield Hall houses administrative offices.

That Doesn’t Happen Very Often
I was out running errands on my bike today and ended up walking the bike up a steep hill. That doesn’t happen very often and, at least in this case, it wasn’t a fitness thing. It was a I’m building up heat and can’t get rid of it thing. A “real feel” temperature of 97Continue reading “That Doesn’t Happen Very Often”
Always Wondered About That Steeple
I’ve always wondered about the steeple on this church in Eau Claire’s Randle Park Neighborhood. It looks like they plucked it off another church or maybe got it at an estate sale. I finally got around to doing a little digging around about it tonight and turns out that originally there was a dome whereContinue reading “Always Wondered About That Steeple”
Finally Got Some Ice On The River
Up until the Polar Vortex hit us we’d had a freakishly warm winter and no river ice, which is a two-fold bummer for me as the coming of river ice generally means wintering Bald Eagles are easier to see as they gather at places where there are openings in the river ice and because IContinue reading “Finally Got Some Ice On The River”
We Gotta Butcher Shop!
Jacobson’s Meat Market is a bit of an institution in Chippewa Falls, our neighbor to the north. So, I was extremely excited when I walked to the hardware store this morning and found that they had just opened shop right next door. I love to be able to support smaller local businesses and especially smallerContinue reading “We Gotta Butcher Shop!”
Yes, I Actually Live In A City
Based on a lot of the photos I post you could get the impression that I live in the countryside, or maybe a small town. But, I actually live in a city. Eau Claire has a population of about 68K. Outside of the city limits things are rural or small towns, so Eau Claire servesContinue reading “Yes, I Actually Live In A City”
The Acoustic Cafe
The The Acoustic Cafe is one of just about everyone around here’s favorite places. The Acoustic serves up wonderful sandwiches, soups, and baked goods- their cinnamon rolls are The Bomb. Back in The Before Times they also had a concert or two a week. I always get a little nostalgia buzz when I show upContinue reading “The Acoustic Cafe”
The Goat Is Back In Black/ Some Pics From Around Town
I took a spin down Water Street, which is the closest thing that Eau Claire has to a college town main drag, and was happily surprised to see that the coffee shop The Goat had gotten a remodel. Last time I’d been by it was looking torn apart and forlorn and I’d wondered if itContinue reading “The Goat Is Back In Black/ Some Pics From Around Town”
Eau Claire River/ Uniroyal Tire
I managed to wander off without my camera this morning, so all a have for you today is a quick cellphone snap of the Eau Claire River. It was an absolutely stunning day today and with temps in the 40’s the bike riding was great. The building in the distance with the smoke stack wasContinue reading “Eau Claire River/ Uniroyal Tire”
First Snow
This will melt off shortly, but the snow’s been coming down good for the last few hours and I always like to document the first snow of the year. The bike in the second pic has 2.4” mountain bike tires on it and does just fine in a little snow. When winter shows up forContinue reading “First Snow”
