I managed to wander off without my camera this morning, so all a have for you today is a quick cellphone snap of the Eau Claire River. It was an absolutely stunning day today and with temps in the 40’s the bike riding was great. The building in the distance with the smoke stack wasContinue reading “Eau Claire River/ Uniroyal Tire”
Otter Creek is about a 2 mile trail system maintained by our local mountain biking club in Centennial Park in Altoona, a small town attached to the east side of Eau Claire. It had been a while since I’d been down that way, so I took a fun little spin though the trails today.
I don’t know why it is, but whenever I ride my bike in cold temps my nose runs. Constantly. When winter time rolls around I pull out a big stack of bandanas and keep them in a handy spot by my bike so I won’t forget one when I roll out the door.
I’m late. Boiled cider is a fall must have around my place and I’ve usually made some up long before the end of October. Boiled cider is exactly what it sounds like: get some good quality, local, freshly pressed cider, and and boil it down to a syrup, concentrating the flavor along the way. While I was out tooling around on my bike yesterday I can across a sight that’s becoming more and more common around here: a box at the end of a driveway with an assortment of veggies in it, a price list, and a tin for you to deposit your cash in. I’m not sure whatContinue reading “Cash (and bikes you can carry stuff with) Is King”
Into The Ruins Was a quarterly magazine of deindustrialized science fiction short stories that ran for four years. Written at the level of, what I guess you could call, high quality fan fiction ITR gave an intriguing look at what the future might look like and in a way that was both more believable andContinue reading “Into The Ruins Comes To An End”
Fall has definitely come to Wisconsin and with our shorter days, softer light, and lingering twilights it’s time to think about putting some lights on our bikes. Generally, my advise on lights is to go with USB rechargeable ones. But, with every rule there is an exception and in this case the exception is theContinue reading “‘Bout That Time”
More boring #EDC stuff… But, with COVID still around, winter coming, and tumult, pretty much, guaranteed by the election I do think it’s good to talk about how we get through times like these. And having a small, always near you “boo-boo” kit and a couple good flashlights helps in that regard. I like non-rechargingContinue reading “A Bright Idea”
Altiods tin kit, plus a few things anyway. I usually have something like this around as a “just in case kit” that will take care of most of the little discomforts and oops’s that I might have. I figured with the election and the possibility of protest marches in the near future I’d share whatContinue reading “Altoids Tin “Boo-Boo” Kit”
Not sure which version of the shot I like better.
